Syria bans OFWs

Filipino workers from the Philippines are no longer allowed to work in Syria, according to Decision Order No. 500 released by the Syrian Ministry of Interior.

This was reported by the Philippine Embassy in Damascus.  As reported, the DFA already relayed this recent development to the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) for the issuance of proper guidelines for prospective job applicants.

Since December 22, 2011, the Philippines has raised Alert Level 4 in Syria due to its worsening security situation and means mandatory repatriation of all Filipinos in that country.

Repatriation costs are shouldered by the Philippine government.  An Alert Level 4 warning effectively means a deployment ban is in effect.
